Luke 9:26 (NIV)
“Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.”
In this passage we see how Jesus speaks directly to the hearts of His followers, calling them to a higher standard of commitment and faithfulness. His words are both a warning and an invitation. Jesus is clear, the decision to follow Him is not a casual one. It is a matter of life and death, of eternal significance. To be “ashamed” of Jesus means to deny Him or fail to acknowledge Him openly, especially in a world that often ridicules His name and message. The fear of rejection and the desire to fit in can often cause us to hesitate or keep silent about our faith in this sinful world.
Jesus warns that those who are ashamed of Him in this life will face His rejection in the next. When He returns in glory, accompanied by the Father and the holy angels, there will be no room for secret discipleship. Either we stand with Him now, or we stand apart from Him later. But there’s also an incredible truth in this verse. For those who boldly declare Him before men, who are unashamed of His gospel, He will not be ashamed of them. Jesus, the Son of Man, will honor them when He returns. This is the hope that strengthens believers to live out their faith boldly in a world that often opposes it. The reward of eternal glory far outweighs any temporary discomfort we may experience on earth.
This week, examine your heart, are there areas in your life where you are hiding your faith? Are there moments when you are ashamed of Christ or His words? Try to Stand for Jesus in everyday moments. The opportunity to stand for Christ often comes in small, everyday moments. Whether it’s in a conversation, at work, or in your family life, be intentional about sharing His love and truth, even when it’s uncomfortable. Following God is not only a privilege but a commitment of the heart, mind, and actions. It might cost you relationships, respect, or comfort, but remember that Jesus’ glory is worth far more than anything this world can offer. The world may reject you now, but when Christ returns, He will welcome you with open arms and share His glory with you. As we look forward to His return in glory, let us live with the courage and conviction that reflects His greatness.
Listen to God and his commands he gives you and never be ashamed of our one true God he put us all on the earth for a reason and we all need to stand up and follow his path he has for us.
